20 Glorious Scriptures about God’s Love

Have you ever thought about what love is really like? Since we are not perfect, we can’t experience a whole, perfect love from a human perspective. Yet, the Bible tells us that God is Love, so let’s examine how we can experience deep intimacy studying the Holy Scriptures about God’s Love

God is Love

Yet, before we begin, think about these questions:

  • Did you know that you can read the Bible many times but never understand God’s love?
  • Were you aware that memorizing Bible Verses alone will not give you love, joy, and peace?
  • Have you ever noticed that praying doesn’t seem to give you a close relationship with God?

Here’s the secret – you can read, memorize, and meditate on His Holy Words and pray every day and still not experience God’s affection for you. You can only transform your life using the scripture through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit takes God’s precious words and applies them to our hearts. The heart is where changes can begin.

Remember, unless you desire a controlled and disciplined mind, you will not grow and understand God’s love for you. As David says, in Psalm 18, “Open my eyes that I may see wondrous things from Your law.”

What is Love According to the Bible?

According to 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, here are the do’s and don’ts of how to love someone based on the biblical definition of love:

  • Love suffers long
  • Love is kind
  • Love doesn’t envy
  • Love isn’t prideful
  • Love behaves well
  • Love is selfless
  • Love is not easily offended
  • Love doesn’t think evil toward others
  • Love doesn’t rejoice in sin
  • Love bears ALL things
  • Love hopes ALL things
  • Love endures ALL things

Do we have this kind of love for our loved ones, family, spouses, kids, friends, and strangers? If not, we are not Christ-like based on the definition of love.

1 Corinthians 13:4 – 7 KJV Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

How Deep Is God’s Love

In John 3:16, a widely known Bible verse about love, spells out the definition of true love. For God so loved the world that He gave His only son; that whoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have everlasting life.

In other words, God’s love is so wide and so deep that it covers every single sinner in the world. Everyone. While he grieves for how the world forgets about him, He still feels a strong affection and desire for every person He has created. And, that’s you.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Scriptures about God’s Love and Grace

In this contemporary world today, grace is one of God’s attributes that I sadly see missing today. There is so much finger-pointing, hatred, bitterness, and slander which means very few have learned the art of grace.

I even find myself forgeting how much grace is given to me and my family. We must love one another, meaning, we must not have perfect expectations of others as we are all imperfect. There’s only one who was perfect on this earth, and that’s Jesus Christ.

Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Ephesians 3:19 – And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Scriptures about God’s Love for Animals

It’s true that God loves His animals that He created for humans. While we are more valuable than birds, animals, and sea creatures, He still cares for animals by providing daily food and water.

My family has always had animals in our home – especially dogs. Most dogs seem to emulate unconditional love. I’ve seen ignored, neglected, and abused dogs and they still have the ability to show you their love with a sign of a wagging tail. Dogs make me smile.

Matthew 6:2 – Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Luke 12:6-7 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Scriptures about God’s Love for All

While John 3:16 encapsulates how much God loves everyone,  John 15 reminds us that the epitome of love is laying down your life and Jesus did just that for everyone in the world.

John 15:12-13 -This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Scriptures about God’s Love and Forgiveness

The scriptures tell us over and over again that any sin you commit can be forgiven. Can you imagine if we forgive others who offend us just like Christ who forgives us of our sins? Our world would be a much better place with Christ-like grace. Who does that?!! Our God does.

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 4:10 – Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Galatians 2:20 – I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

2 Peter 3:9 – The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Scriptures about God’s Love for Sinners

Even though we constantly disobey our creator’s commandments every day in our thoughts, deeds, and actions, God’s word ensures us that it’s not too late to repent and be forgiven. He is love, indeed.

Romans 5:8 – But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Scriptures about God’s Love and Protection

Throughout scripture, God has to remind us of his deep passion for us. It’s almost too hard to comprehend loving unbelievers in the world who constantly ignore you, worship other idols, and continuously are unkind to others with disrespect, rudeness, and anger.

However, He can overcome all of these offensives and tells us that through the Holy Spirit, we can too.

Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Isaiah 41:13 – For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
