10 Key Scriptures on Health

Whether a new year is upon us or you’re struggling with weight or health, I’ve got great news for you. The Bible lays out a plentiful spread of how we should treat our bodies and eat food. Let’s dive in and glean the key scriptures on health to live a happy fulfilling life in a Biblical way.

Setting healthy goals is important for our spiritual, mental, and physical health. The key is to start today, not Monday, not next week, but today. We must first pray to our Lord for His guidance and direction. Without Him, it is impossible.

Lord, my prayer today is to focus on your thoughts, not my own. Please help me take care of my mind, body, and soul in a way that is pleasing to you. Help me to avoid food, entertainment, and activities that are not in your plan. Instead, guide me to healthy living in a Biblical way.

What does God say about Health and Wellness?

While most Christians know it’s spiritual to take care of the spirit and soul, they tend to leave out the physical body. Yes, it’s true that our spiritual condition is most important, but God does say in Romans 12:1 that we must present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Should we obsess over our bodies? Nope. However, taking care of what we eat with healthy foods and adding an exercise routine to our daily lives is consistent with what the Bible says. God gave us natural food, so we must put that type of food in our bodies. In addition, we must oil our machines by continuously moving and staying busy instead of staying in bed and being lazy. I’m talking to myself as I love to sleep in and not exercise. However, it’s not good for us and our family.

This also includes our entertainment. Are we watching too much ungodly TV or videos? Are we spending too much time looking at our smartphones instead of the Living Word of God? • 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
  • 3 John 1:2 – Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
  • 1 Corinthians 10:31 – Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Scriptures on Health and Healing

Now let’s discuss some critical scriptures on mental health and healing. These Bible verses will reveal truth about how we should live health-wise. If we serve the Lord in all aspects of life, He will bless us and heal us whether it’s spiritually, physically, or emotionally.

Exodus 23:25 – And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

Scripture on Healthy Relationships

The Holy Bible does give us a blueprint for healthy relationships. As Jesus tells us in John 13:34, we must love one another. This is a sign of a healthy relationship. What is love? You’ll find a ton of Bible Verses about Love with critical guidelines on how to truly love someone in a Biblical way.

1 John 3:18 – Let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Scripture on Healthy Eating

For our physical needs, when we eat, do we glorify God? When we drink, do we glorify God? In 1 Corinthians 10:31, this passage reminds us that whatever we do on a daily basis, we should do it to glorify the Lord.

God gave us natural foods like meat, milk, eggs, fruit, and vegetables. We should daily bless our bodies with God’s creations, including natural foods with vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that are proven to strengthen our bodies. We should always pray and thank God for our food as the Bible indicates in Matthew 6:9-13.

1 Corinthians 10:31 – Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Scripture on Healthy lifestyle

How do we glorify God with a healthy lifestyle? Not only should we feed ourselves with good, organic foods, but we should also concentrate our efforts on an overall healthy lifestyle. This includes nurturing our bodies with healthy food and exercise in moderation. However, this also encompasses what we see and hear that can heal or corrupt minds and soul.

How do we edify our minds? Do we attend church or stay home because of fear? Do we spend time or fellowship with other Christians for encouragement? Or, do we watch reality TV or spend a lot of time with ungodly friends?

We must make good choices that fill our minds with pure thoughts as well. Do we read the Bible and commentaries or devotions or tend to scroll too much online? The Bible is clear that we must get into a routine of reading the Bible, praying, and walking with the Lord

3 John 1:2 – Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Scripture on Healthy Living

The term Healthy living seems to indicate a lifestyle of clean food and fitness, but it should also include our mental thoughts. If we have the will to have a healthy life, it must start in the spiritual heart or the seat of our mind.

Our mind is the control center and key to hope for healthy living. If we have self-control on daily habits, we can steer our lives in God’s direction.

Questions to ask ourselves: Do we wake up in a bad mood? Do we have a cheerful heart throughout the day or is our spirit broken? If we dwell in the flesh and not in spirit, out of our mouths comes corruption and critical speaking. The most effective way to have healthy living in our thoughts is to develop a routine of Biblical Thinking

Ephesians 4:29 – Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Proverbs 17:22 – A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

Proverbs 16:24 – Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

Scripture on Health and Wealth

If you think about it, good health is wealth. If you don’t have it, you lose your life. Wealth can be seen spiritually and physically. If you are looking for health and wealth, see it from a Biblical perspective. The scripture warns about wealth in a physical sense using several scriptures.

For example, Paul’s advice for those who have money to be humble and not proud. They should also not trust in riches, but trust in God who gives riches abundantly.

If you are blessed with riches, be giving and generous. Material wealth is not eternal, but it’s more important to invest in things of eternal value.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 – Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Scripture on Health and Strength

We must rely on the Lord for our health and strength, in a physical and spiritual sense. He will build a firm foundation with our mind, muscles, and spirit. God wants us to prosper or be successful in spiritual and physical health.

Exodus 15:2 – The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

3 John 1:2 – Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Scripture on Health and Fitness

As we see in many of these Bible Verses on health, we must be fit in all aspects of life, not just spiritually. If we don’t have good health, we can’t walk and witness to others as a healthy person. Let’s remember that our bodies are a living sacrifice to God, and we must turn away from laziness and gluttony, instead, focus on healthy meals, fitness for strength, and drink for cleansing.

1 Corinthians 3:17 – If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Proverbs 4:20-22 – My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

Let’s take these Health Bible Verses as a constant reminder to commit all of our works to the Lord, whether it’s washing dishes, running a race, or giving our money to the poor. In all things, give glory to God and He will bless you richly.
